## Can you move reviews from one Shopify review app to another? {#can-you-move-reviews-from-one-shopify-review-app-to-another}

Yes. Most Shopify review apps export your reviews as a CSV file that another app can import, with each review’s rating, text, reviewer and date. What else comes across, such as photos, videos, replies and verified badges, depends on what the old app puts in its export, so check the file before you uninstall anything.

> **Note:** The Shopify pages and the review apps’ help pages cited here were checked on 14 October 2026.

Shopify’s own Product Reviews app is no longer on the App Store ([Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/product-reviews)), so moving reviews today means moving them from one third-party app to another. What Shopify itself still does for reviews, through the Shop app and your theme, is covered in [how to add product reviews to Shopify](/blog/add-product-reviews-shopify/).

Shopify’s advice for a switch is short: transfer all your existing reviews before you uninstall the current app ([Shopify: syncing Shop product reviews with partner apps](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/shop/product-reviews/sync-partner-apps)). The rest of this guide is about what that transfer can and can’t carry.

## What should you check before you switch? {#what-should-you-check-before-you-switch}

Before you switch review apps, find out what your old app’s export contains, whether the new app reads it, and what happens to the things a file doesn’t carry: Shop app reviews, verified badges, review emails and your stars in Google.

- **The export.** Where your old app keeps it, what it includes and how it arrives. Several apps send the file, or a link to it, by email, and some links expire.
- **The import.** Whether the new app recognises your old app’s file, and whether it shows you what will happen before it saves anything.
- **Photos and videos.** An export lists them as web links, so the new app has to fetch each one and store it. Ask what it does with large files and with links it can’t fetch.
- **Verified badges.** Whether the new app re-checks them against your orders, shows them as the old app’s claim, accepts them as they are, or drops them.
- **Shop app reviews.** Whether your old app syncs with the Shop app, and what you’d lose there.
- **Review request emails.** Which app asks customers for reviews on the day you switch.
- **Your theme.** Which blocks or code the old app added, so you can remove them.
- **Google.** Which app adds the review data behind your stars in search results.

## What does an export file carry? {#what-does-an-export-file-carry}

An export file carries each review’s rating, text, reviewer and date, usually with the product it’s about, but photos, videos, replies and verified status depend on the app. Photos and videos arrive as links, not files.

Here is what five common apps’ own help pages say their export contains. “Not stated” means the page doesn’t say.

| App | Photos | Videos | Replies | Verified status | Order IDs |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Judge.me | Yes | No | Yes | No; Judge.me says the review’s source shows it | No |
| Loox | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated |
| Yotpo | Yes, as links | Yes, as links | Yes, marked public or not | Reviewer type, which can be Verified Buyer | Yotpo’s own order ID |
| Okendo | Yes, as links | Yes, as links | Yes, marked public or not | Yes | Not stated |
| Stamped | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated |

Sources, checked 14 October 2026: [Judge.me](https://judge.me/help/en/articles/8236266-exporting-reviews), [Loox](https://help.loox.io/article/21-how-do-i-export-my-reviews), [Yotpo](https://support.yotpo.com/docs/exporting-reviews-from-yotpo), [Okendo](https://support.okendo.io/en/articles/10584118-managing-data-exports), [Stamped](https://stampedsupport.stamped.io/hc/en-us/articles/8839244356891-Managing-Reviews-Exporting-Reviews-Checkout-Comments-or-NPS).

Three details from those pages matter when you plan the move:

- **Limits and timing.** Judge.me puts up to 100,000 reviews in one file and its emailed link expires three hours after it is sent. Yotpo says reviews from the last 24 hours may be missing from an export, and Stamped sends you to its support team for a complete export of every review.
- **Status.** Some files say whether each review was published, hidden or waiting for approval. Judge.me’s does, so a careful import can keep hidden reviews hidden.
- **What isn’t in the review export.** Yotpo says its questions and answers can’t be exported; Okendo exports them as a separate data type.

Step-by-step export instructions for each of the five are in [export reviews from your old app](/docs/avis/move-from-another-app/).

## What happens to verified badges? {#what-happens-to-verified-badges}

A verified badge is your old app’s claim that the reviewer bought the product from your store, and a new app can confirm that claim only against orders it can see. So after a switch, each badge is re-checked, shown as the old app’s claim, accepted as it is or dropped, depending on the new app.

An export may carry the claim: Yotpo’s reviewer type can read Verified Buyer, Okendo’s file has a verified-buyer column, and Judge.me says its review source tells you who bought. The old app made that claim from its own data: ask the new app which of the four it does before you import.

Re-checking has a limit set by Shopify: by default, an app can read only the last 60 days of a store’s orders, and older ones need extra access that Shopify must approve ([Shopify: access scopes](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/usage/access-scopes)). So unless the new app has that access, an imported review whose order is more than 60 days old can’t be matched against your orders, even when the buyer was real.

Avis Product Reviews, which we build, re-checks: it shows **Verified purchase** on an imported review only when it matches the reviewer’s email and the product to one of your orders from the last 60 days. The old app’s mark can show as **Verified by previous review app**, a separate label that is off until you turn it on. More on [why imported reviews need re-verifying](/docs/avis/verified-reviews-and-labels/).

## What happens to Shop app reviews? {#what-happens-to-shop-app-reviews}

Reviews moved with a CSV file can’t show in the Shop app, and only the review apps Shopify lists as Shop partners sync with Shop at all. If your old app is one of them, a switch changes what appears in Shop.

Shopify’s page on syncing Shop product reviews with partner apps says:

- eligible reviews collected by its five partner apps display on Shop once you turn that on in the Shop channel’s settings, and reviews published in the Shop app are shared with those apps, which can show them on your online store;
- a review needs a customer ID, an order ID and a product ID to appear in Shop;
- reviews migrated between partner apps with a CSV file, or uploaded to your store from one, aren’t eligible to display in Shop;
- if you switch, transfer all existing reviews before uninstalling the current app.

The page doesn’t say what happens to Shop-collected reviews when you leave a partner app, so ask your old app before you go ([Shopify](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/shop/product-reviews/sync-partner-apps)). Shop’s own reviews come from buyers through the Shop app and are shown on the product’s page there ([Shopify: Shop product reviews](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-sales-channels/shop/product-reviews)).

Avis isn’t one of Shopify’s partner apps and doesn’t sync with the Shop app. If reviews in the Shop app matter to your sales, that is a reason to stay with a partner app.

## What happens to your star ratings in Google? {#what-happens-to-your-star-ratings-in-google}

Your stars in Google come from review structured data on your product pages, which your review app usually adds. When you switch apps, the old app’s data goes and the new app’s has to take its place, so check a product page after the switch.

- **Google decides.** Valid review data makes a page eligible for stars, and Google says it doesn’t guarantee that features using structured data will show ([Google: review snippets](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/review-snippet), checked 14 October 2026).
- **Test a page.** Run a product page through Google’s [Rich Results Test](https://search.google.com/test/rich-results) once the new app’s widget is live, and again after you uninstall the old app.
- **Shopify’s rating fields.** Shopify defines standard fields for a product’s average rating and rating count, asks rating apps to keep them up to date and tells themes that show ratings to read them ([Shopify: standard metafield definitions](https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/build/metafields/list-of-standard-definitions)). A theme that shows stars from these fields keeps showing current ratings only if the new app writes them.
- **Google’s rules travel with you.** Its review guidelines say the reviews you mark up must be readily available to visitors on that page, and that sites shouldn’t aggregate reviews or ratings from other websites.

Why stars go missing, and how to read what Search Console reports, is covered in [your star ratings in Google](/blog/shopify-review-stars-google/).

## In what order should you switch? {#in-what-order-should-you-switch}

Switch in an order that never leaves your product pages without reviews: export and import first, change the theme next, and uninstall the old app last.

1. Export your reviews from the old app, and keep it installed.
2. Import the file into the new app. Before you confirm, check how many reviews will import, which products weren’t found and how many photos will be copied.
3. Add the new app’s review widgets to a duplicate of your theme, compare, then publish it.
4. Turn off the old app’s review request emails, then turn on the new app’s.
5. Remove the old app’s blocks from your theme, and look for code it left behind. After Shopify’s Product Reviews app was uninstalled, one merchant found its review section still on their product pages, no longer working ([Shopify Community](https://community.shopify.com/t/product-review-app-uninstalled-by-shopify/410626)).
6. Test a product page’s structured data.
7. Export and import again if reviews arrived after your first export, checking that the new app skips the ones it already has. Then uninstall the old app.

## How do you switch to Avis? {#how-do-you-switch-to-avis}

To switch to Avis Product Reviews, export your reviews from your old app, upload the file in Avis under **Import & export**, check the preview and import, then follow the order above. Avis reads export files from 20 review apps, including the five above and Shopify’s old Product Reviews app, and any other CSV file whose columns you match.

Its preview shows what the import will do before anything is saved, and an import can be undone with no time limit.

What it does with your file:

- **Photos and videos** the file links to are copied into your Shopify Files, images up to 20 MB and videos up to 64 MB, so they stay with your store. A photo given only as a file name, not a web address, can’t be fetched.
- **Dates and replies** come across, except replies the file marks as private, and so does each review’s published or hidden state.
- **Verified badges** are re-checked against your last 60 days of orders, and the old app’s mark can show as the opt-in **Verified by previous review app**.
- **Duplicates** are skipped, so importing a second, later export is safe.

What it doesn’t do: sync with the Shop app, import questions and answers, match products by SKU, or import reviews straight from a marketplace. Importing and exporting are on every plan, the Free plan included.

The steps are in [export reviews from your old app](/docs/avis/move-from-another-app/) and [import reviews into Avis](/docs/avis/import-reviews/).

> **Tip:** [Avis Product Reviews, which collects and imports Shopify reviews](/shopify/avis/), shows you the import before it saves anything, and imports and exports on its Free plan.

## Frequently asked questions {#frequently-asked-questions}

### Will customers get two review emails? {#will-customers-get-two-review-emails}

They can, if both apps send review requests for the same orders, so turn off the old app’s requests before the new app’s start. In Avis, **Send review requests automatically** is under **Collect** → **Timing & rules**, and it starts ticked in setup. Avis sends one request per order and, with **Skip products the customer already reviewed** on, as it is by default, also skips products the customer reviewed in an imported review that carries their email.

### Can I move questions and answers? {#can-i-move-questions-and-answers}

Not into Avis: its import brings reviews only. Questions and answers often sit outside the review export, and Yotpo says it can’t export them, so check your old app’s help before you switch.

### What about Amazon or Etsy reviews? {#what-about-amazon-or-etsy-reviews}

Not into Avis, whose import screen says: “Avis does not import reviews from AliExpress, Amazon or other marketplaces. Those reviews are about other sellers’ products.” If your old app’s file marks reviews that came from a marketplace, Avis still imports them, never as verified by your old app, and once published they count in your star rating. Google’s review-snippet guidelines tell sites not to aggregate reviews or ratings from other websites, so remove those rows before you import: [what to do with marketplace reviews in an import](/docs/avis/import-reviews/#what-if-a-file-has-marketplace-reviews).

[Avis Product Reviews App](/shopify/avis/)

Avis Product Reviews is a Shopify app that collects photo and video reviews after each order and imports your reviews from another review app, with the photos its file links to. Labels tell shoppers which reviews were matched to an order, rewarded or added by the store, and Avis never hides a review because of its rating.
