# Shopify Country, IP and Bot Blocker Apps (2026) {#post-title}

[X Shield](/shopify/x-shield/)

Published 7 October 2026 Updated 19 October 2026

X Shield and 9 other Shopify apps, compared

**Verdict.** No app here wins on every count. Blockify has by far the most reviews and acts at checkout too, Blockly's listing shows no paid plan, and X Shield, which we build, adds a free dry run and checks crawlers against their published IP ranges or networks, but does nothing at checkout.

## What is the best Shopify app to block countries, IPs and bots? {#what-is-the-best-shopify-app-to-block-countries-ips-and-bots}

There isn’t one best Shopify blocker app for every store. To stop orders from a country, Shopify Markets may be enough. To keep visitors out, most stores need an app: Blockify has the most reviews and adds checkout rules, Blockly’s listing shows one price, Free, and X Shield, which we build, lets you test every rule in a dry run first.

We build X Shield, so weigh this page with that in mind. It ranks nothing: the tables list the apps by how many reviews they have, which puts X Shield last. Every fact about the other nine comes from their App Store listings as they read on 19 October 2026, unless a note names another source, and every source is linked under [Sources](#sources).

## How were the apps chosen and checked? {#how-were-the-apps-chosen-and-checked}

We searched the Shopify App Store, logged out, on 7 October 2026 for six phrases: country blocker, bot blocker, vpn blocker, ip blocker, block country and block ip. Every app in the top 10 for at least three of them is here: ten apps, X Shield included. On 19 October 2026 we re-read all ten listings but didn’t repeat the search, so the apps are still the ones chosen on 7 October.

In the tables, ✓ means the app’s listing says it does that, and “Not stated” means the listing doesn’t say so, which isn’t the same as “can’t”. We read each listing’s description, feature list and plans, not its screenshots, and didn’t install the other apps. X Shield’s cells come from the app itself. Prices are left out because they change: check each listing, or [X Shield’s plans](/shopify/x-shield/#pricing).

## Do you need an app at all? {#do-you-need-an-app-at-all}

Not if your problem is orders rather than visits. Shopify’s own tools can stop a country from buying, refuse checkouts by email, address or IP, and keep bot sessions out of your reports, but none of them stops a country or an IP address from browsing your storefront.

| If you want to | Shopify’s own option | What it won’t do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Stop orders from a country | **Markets**: shoppers from a country in no active market “can browse your store, but can’t complete a purchase” | Stop them browsing |
| Refuse a checkout by email, address or IP | The free **Fraud Control** app’s checkout rules; refused attempts show in abandoned checkouts | Work without Shopify Payments |
| Add other checkout rules | **Settings** → **Checkout** → **Checkout rules**, filled by apps that support cart and checkout validation | Anything until you install such an app |
| Get bots out of your reports | The **Human or bot session** filter: since 21–23 September 2026, the bot sessions Shopify identifies are left out of session reports by default | Block them: Shopify filters instead, because blocking bots outright also stops search engines indexing your store |
| Fend off attacks | Cloudflare’s firewall and DDoS protection, always on, plus hCaptcha | Take rules of your own |
| Stop auto-checkout bots in a flash sale | **Checkout bot protection**, for scheduled sales of up to 60 minutes, switched on by Shopify Plus Support | Work outside Shopify Plus, or stop fraud |

Checked against Shopify’s help centre and Fraud Control’s App Store listing on 7 October 2026, all linked under [Sources](#sources).

What’s missing is a way to keep a country, an IP address or a bot network off your storefront, which is the gap these apps fill. The other route, your own Cloudflare account in front of Shopify, is a setup Shopify doesn’t support: see [how to block countries on Shopify](/blog/block-countries-on-shopify/).

## How do the apps compare at a glance? {#how-do-the-apps-compare-at-a-glance}

Nine of the ten Shopify apps carry the Built for Shopify badge; BM is the exception. Seven have a free plan for live stores, BM and EB Country Blocker have pay-as-you-go plans that charge by page view after the first 500, and Blocky’s free plan is for development stores only.

| App | Best for | Free plan | Built for Shopify | Rating (19 October 2026) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Blockify](https://apps.shopify.com/blockify) | Checkout rules, automatic order cancelling and Shopify Flow, from the longest review record | 2 active block rules for IPs or countries; the first 200 visitors in its analytics | Yes | 4.9 from 1,788 reviews |

| [Anti Bot](https://apps.shopify.com/antibot) | Bot and spam blocking aimed at cleaner analytics and ad pixels | Spy-tool, right-click, copy, print and developer-tools blocking | Yes | 4.8 from 52 reviews |
| [Blockly](https://apps.shopify.com/shieldify-fraud-filter) | Checkout blocking and automatic cancelling of high-risk orders, with no paid plan listed | The listing’s only price is Free; its description says visitor analytics are free for your first 1,000 visitors | Yes | 4.3 from 40 reviews |
| [X Shield](/shopify/x-shield/) | Testing every rule in a free dry run, with search crawlers checked against their published IP ranges | 5 countries and 5 IP entries; bot, VPN and content protection; dry run | Yes | 4.9 from 14 reviews |

## What can each app block? {#what-can-each-app-block}

All ten Shopify apps here say they block countries, IP addresses, VPN or proxy traffic and bots. They differ in detail, such as states and IP ranges, and in whether search engines still get in: one of the ten listings, X Shield’s, says so in its text, and a MIDA screenshot claims it too.

| App | Countries | IP addresses | VPN and proxy | Bots | Lets search crawlers in |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Blockify | ✓ with states and cities | ✓ with ISPs | ✓ | ✓ | Not stated (see below) |
| MIDA | ✓ with states and cities | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | Not in its text; a screenshot is captioned “Built for Search & AI Crawlers” |
| Blocky | ✓ | ✓ IPv4 and IPv6 | ✓ | ✓ | Not stated |
| BM | ✓ with states and cities | ✓ with ranges, ISPs and ASNs | ✓ | ✓ | Not stated |
| Securify | ✓ | ✓ with ranges | ✓ | ✓ | Not stated |
| Store Protection & Bot Blocker | ✓ | ✓ with ASNs | ✓ | ✓ | Not stated |
| EB Country Blocker | ✓ with states and cities | ✓ with ranges, ISPs and ASNs | ✓ | ✓ | Not stated |
| Anti Bot | ✓ | ✓ with ISPs and ASNs | ✓ | ✓ | Not stated |
| Blockly | ✓ with states and cities | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | Not stated |
| X Shield | ✓ with groups such as the EU; cities on Enterprise and Plus | ✓ with ranges, CIDR and IPv6; ASNs on Enterprise and Plus | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ checked against each crawler’s published IP ranges or network |

On the last column: Blockify’s help centre describes an allowed-bot list, with a switch per bot and Googlebot and Bingbot on it, that its listing doesn’t mention ([allowed bot list](https://help.omegatheme.com/en/article/manage-the-allowed-bot-list-11f2qb/); more in [X Shield vs Blockify](/compare/x-shield-vs-blockify/)). How an app recognises a crawler matters, because any scraper can call itself Googlebot. Google publishes its crawlers’ IP ranges so that sites can check them ([verifying Googlebot](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/verifying-googlebot), updated 20 March 2026), and X Shield checks those ranges: see [how X Shield verifies Googlebot](/docs/x-shield/bot-protection/).

## Which apps block VPNs on a free plan? {#which-apps-block-vpns-on-a-free-plan}

On 19 October 2026, two of the ten Shopify blocker apps compared here listed VPN and proxy blocking without a paid plan: X Shield, which we build, on its Free plan, and Blockly, whose listing shows one price, Free, and names VPN, proxy and Tor blocking. The other eight listings put it on a paid plan or, for BM and EB Country Blocker, on a pay-as-you-go plan that is free for the first 500 page views.

| App | VPN and proxy blocking on the free plan | Plan the listing names for it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Blockify | Not stated | Premium; Tor on Enterprise |
| MIDA | Not stated | Advanced, with Tor |
| Blocky | No free plan for live stores; the development-store plan has every Pro Plan feature | Pro Plan, with Tor |
| BM | No free plan; pay as you go includes it, free for the first 500 page views | Premium, and pay as you go |
| Securify | Not stated | Pro Plan |
| Store Protection & Bot Blocker | Not stated | Pro plan |
| EB Country Blocker | No free plan; pay as you go includes it, free for the first 500 page views | Premium, and pay as you go |
| Anti Bot | Not stated | Pro, with Tor |
| Blockly | ✓ VPN, proxy and Tor named; the listing’s only price is Free | No paid plan shown |
| X Shield | ✓ Tor, plus known VPN, proxy and data-centre networks | Every plan |

“Not stated” means the free plan’s description doesn’t mention VPN blocking, not that the app can’t do it. X Shield’s switch, **VPN/Proxy protection**, is off until you turn it on, and iCloud Private Relay is exempt. In any of these apps, VPN blocking also turns away some real customers, such as shoppers on privacy tools or a work VPN: see [whether to block VPN traffic](/blog/block-vpn-shopify/).

## Which apps protect content, test rules or act at checkout? {#which-apps-protect-content-test-rules-or-act-at-checkout}

The ten Shopify apps differ most here. Every one offers content protection and a visitor log, six mention spy tools or extensions, eight describe rules at checkout, and none of the other nine listings describes a way to test rules before they block anyone, which X Shield does with a free dry run.

| App | Content protection | Spy extensions | Test or dry-run mode | Visitor analytics | Rules at checkout |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Blockify | ✓ | ✓ | Not stated | ✓ | ✓ |
| MIDA | ✓ | Not stated | Not stated | ✓ | ✓ |
| Blocky | ✓ | ✓ (“spy tools”) | Not stated | ✓ | ✓ |
| BM | ✓ | Not stated | Not stated | ✓ | ✓ |
| Securify | ✓ | ✓ | Not stated | ✓ | ✓ |
| Store Protection & Bot Blocker | ✓ | ✓ | Not stated | ✓ | Not stated |
| EB Country Blocker | ✓ | Not stated | Not stated | ✓ | ✓ |
| Anti Bot | ✓ | ✓ | Not stated | ✓ | ✓ |
| Blockly | ✓ | Not stated | Not stated | ✓ | ✓ |
| X Shield | ✓ | ✓ on paid plans | ✓ dry run and rule tester, free | ✓ latest 200 blocked visitors free; history on paid plans | No |

“Rules at checkout” means acting at Shopify’s checkout itself: refusing a checkout on details such as the buyer’s email, phone, name or address, or, in Anti Bot’s case, stopping card-testing bots there. X Shield can’t act on Shopify’s checkout at all. On paid plans it checks new orders, up to a monthly cap, against what it has blocked, and writes a high-risk assessment into Shopify’s fraud analysis for the ones it flags; Enterprise can also tag them and Plus can hold their fulfillment. It never cancels an order.

**Blocked visits kept out of Shopify Analytics.** X Shield: yes for country, IP, VPN and bot blocks, tested on 8 October 2026, when the visits a country rule blocked left no session in Shopify Analytics; its spy-extension and developer-tools blocks can still be counted ([how we tested blocked visits in Shopify Analytics](/docs/x-shield/blocked-visitors-in-shopify-analytics/)). The other nine apps: not tested by us.

## Which app fits your store? {#which-app-fits-your-store}

The right blocker depends on the problem you’re solving, and for some problems it’s no app at all.

- **Orders from one country, not visits.** Leave the country out of every market in Shopify Markets. Its shoppers can still browse, but can’t buy.
- **A long track record, checkout rules and automation.** Blockify. Its 1,788 reviews are more than three times any other app’s here, and its listing adds Shopify Flow and automatic cancelling of high-risk orders, which Securify’s and Blockly’s listings name too.
- **Paying nothing.** Blockly, whose listing shows no paid plan, or Securify’s free plan, which blocks unlimited countries and IPs up to 500 blocked visitors a month.
- **Refusing named customers at checkout.** Shopify’s own Fraud Control does it free on Shopify Payments. Blockify, MIDA, Blocky, BM, Securify, EB Country Blocker and Blockly describe checkout rules by email, phone or name.
- **Low traffic, paid by use.** BM or EB Country Blocker: both have a pay-as-you-go plan that charges by page view after the first 500, capped each month, with every feature included.
- **Copycats and spy extensions.** Store Protection & Bot Blocker leads with spy-tool and content protection, and Anti Bot’s free plan is spy-tool and content protection. X Shield looks for more than 130 known spy extensions on its paid plans: see [spy-extension protection](/docs/x-shield/spy-extensions/).
- **Blocking without losing Google or real customers.** X Shield, if you want crawlers verified by IP range or network and a dry run before any rule goes live. Verified Googlebot, Bingbot, Applebot, DuckDuckBot and Meta crawlers get in by default, AI crawlers are opt-in, and the free dry run records who each rule would have blocked without blocking anyone; seeing them visitor by visitor needs a paid plan. See [dry run and your private access link](/docs/x-shield/safety-and-testing/).
- **Clean reports.** Start with Shopify’s **Human or bot session** filter. X Shield holds Shopify’s analytics until it decides, so visits it blocks by country, IP, VPN or bot rules leave no session in your reports (tested on 8 October 2026). Anti Bot’s listing says it stops bots before they trigger your marketing pixels, and Securify’s that you stop seeing bad traffic in your analytics; we haven’t tested either claim.
- **An admin in your language.** X Shield’s admin comes in 20 languages; Store Protection & Bot Blocker’s listing names 15, Blocky’s 11, Blockify’s 9 and Anti Bot’s 8; the other five list English only.

Whichever you choose, run one blocker at a time. With two, you can’t tell which one turned a visitor away.

## What can’t a blocker app stop? {#what-cant-a-blocker-app-stop}

A Shopify blocker app works through a script your theme loads in each visitor’s browser, so it can’t stop anything that never loads your storefront, and it knows a visitor’s location only from their IP address.

- **Bots that skip your pages.** A bot that doesn’t run the script, or goes straight to checkout or to your store’s product data, never sees a blocked page. Checkout rules can refuse its order, but not its visit.
- **VPNs.** Country rules see the country of the visitor’s IP address, so a VPN exit in a country you allow gets through. VPN blocking catches the networks an app knows about and turns away some honest shoppers too: see [whether to block VPN traffic](/blog/block-vpn-shopify/).
- **What has already loaded.** By the time a blocked page appears, the visitor’s browser has already received your page’s HTML, prices included.
- **Shopify’s own counts.** No storefront app keeps a shopper who goes straight to checkout out of Shopify’s session reports. X Shield keeps out the visits it blocks by country, IP, VPN or bot rules, and we haven’t tested whether the other apps do: see [whether blocked visitors show up in Shopify Analytics](/docs/x-shield/blocked-visitors-in-shopify-analytics/).

## Frequently asked questions {#frequently-asked-questions}

### Is there a free country blocker app for Shopify? {#is-there-a-free-country-blocker-app-for-shopify}

Yes. Blockly’s listing shows only a free price, Securify’s free plan blocks unlimited countries, MIDA’s free plan includes four country or IP rules, Blockify’s two and X Shield’s five countries. BM and EB Country Blocker are free for the first 500 page views.

### Which apps keep Googlebot crawling while a country is blocked? {#which-apps-keep-googlebot-crawling-while-a-country-is-blocked}

Of the ten Shopify blocker apps here, only X Shield’s listing says in its text that Googlebot and other search crawlers still get in; MIDA captions a screenshot “Built for Search & AI Crawlers”, and Blockify’s help centre describes an allowed-bot list with Googlebot and Bingbot on it. X Shield checks crawlers against their owners’ published IP ranges or networks, so a scraper calling itself Googlebot gets no free pass. Before blocking a country Google crawls from, read [whether blocking countries hurts SEO](/blog/geo-blocking-seo-shopify/).

### Can a blocker app stop fake orders and card testing? {#can-a-blocker-app-stop-fake-orders-and-card-testing}

Not from your storefront alone, because card-testing bots often skip it and go straight to checkout. Shopify’s Fraud Control app and the apps with checkout rules act at checkout instead; X Shield can’t. See [fake John Doe checkouts](/blog/shopify-fake-abandoned-checkouts/).

### Does blocking bots clean up Shopify Analytics? {#does-blocking-bots-clean-up-shopify-analytics}

Partly. In our test on 8 October 2026, visits X Shield blocked with a country rule left no session in Shopify Analytics, and its IP, VPN and bot rules block the same way; we haven’t tested the other apps. Shopify now leaves the bot sessions it identifies out of session reports by default, so check the **Human or bot session** filter before judging any app by your session numbers: see [Shopify bot traffic, explained](/blog/shopify-bot-traffic/).

[X Shield Fraud Country Blocker](/shopify/x-shield/)

X Shield is a Shopify app that blocks visitors by country, IP address or network, and turns away the bots, VPNs and spy extensions it detects, showing them a blocked page instead of your store. Googlebot and Bingbot, checked against their published IP ranges, still get in, and dry run lets you test every rule before it blocks anyone.
