Is X Shield a good Blockify alternative?
X Shield is a good Blockify alternative if you need to block at the storefront rather than at checkout. Both are Shopify apps; Blockify, with far more reviews, can also stop orders at checkout and cancel risky ones automatically. X Shield checks crawlers against their published IP ranges or networks, lets you test rules in a free dry run, and flags rather than cancels risky orders.

Both apps load through a theme app embed, and both say a blocked visit can still appear in Shopify’s own analytics.

Where is Blockify stronger?
Blockify is stronger than X Shield at checkout, after the order, in automation and in track record.
- Track record. More than 150 times as many ratings, and over eight years on the App Store to X Shield’s one.
- Checkout. Its checkout rule refuses orders from customers you name. X Shield can’t act at checkout at all.
- Automatic order handling. It can cancel, refund and restock risky orders for you. X Shield only flags, tags or holds them.
- Automation. Shopify Flow triggers, actions and templates, and a Klaviyo integration. X Shield has none.
- Routing. Redirect rules send chosen countries or IPs to another site, even on the Free plan. X Shield only redirects blocked visitors.
- Finer rules. States and provinces, referrers, user agents, products and collections. A region in X Shield is a group of countries.
- Pinterest. Its allowed-bot list includes Pinterest’s crawler, which X Shield can’t verify, so it can’t let it through while Bot protection is on.

Where is X Shield stronger?
X Shield is stronger than Blockify before anything is blocked, with dry run and a rule tester, and on the Free plan.
- Testing first. Dry run records who each rule would have blocked without blocking anyone, the rule tester checks a single IP or country, and a warning appears when a rule would block you. All three are free; dry run’s visitor-by-visitor results need a paid plan: see dry run and your private access link.
- Crawler checks by published IP ranges. A visitor claiming to be Googlebot is checked against Google’s published IP ranges, so a fake one gets no free pass and is blocked when Bot protection is on. Each AI crawler is opt-in. See how X Shield verifies Googlebot.

Which should you choose?
Choose between X Shield and Blockify by the job, not the feature count.
Choose Blockify if you need to refuse orders from specific customers at checkout, want risky orders cancelled and refunded automatically, build Shopify Flow or Klaviyo automations, redirect visitors by country, or value a long review record.
Choose X Shield if your problem is on the storefront (bots, scrapers, countries you don’t sell to), you want to test every rule before it blocks anyone, you want VPN, bot and content protection without a paid plan, or you want the admin in one of 20 languages.
If checkout blocking is the one thing X Shield lacks for you, look at Shopify’s own Fraud Control app first. Its checkout rules stop checkouts by email, address or IP address, and they work only if you use Shopify Payments (Fraud Control app).
Whichever you choose, run one blocker on your storefront: with two, you can’t tell which one turned a visitor away.
How do you switch without a gap?
Run X Shield in dry run beside Blockify, then hand over in one sitting. Neither app writes into your theme files, with one exception for early Blockify users.
- List what Blockify does for you. Note its block, whitelist and redirect rules, and whether you use its checkout rule, fraud filter or Flow workflows. X Shield has no equivalent for those three, so plan their replacements first.
- Install X Shield and turn on its app embed. Open the app, click Enable in theme on the Overview, then Save in the theme editor (set up X Shield). The Theme extension badge shows Active.
- Switch on dry run. In Safety & testing, click Observe only, then Save. X Shield now evaluates rules without blocking anyone, so Blockify stays in charge.
- Recreate your rules. Add countries in GEO control (choose Allow only listed if Blockify blocked every country but yours), addresses in IP & Network, and IPs Blockify whitelisted in Global bypass → Whitelisted IPs.
- Check them. In Safety & testing → Test your rules, click Test my own connection, then try the IPs and countries you care about. Each result reads Blocked or Let through.
- Hand over. In X Shield, click Block for real, then Save. Then turn off Blockify’s master switch, Activate Blockify, in its general settings, and check your store from a private window.
- Uninstall Blockify. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Apps, click ⋯ next to Blockify, then Uninstall.
- Check for leftovers. Blockify’s FAQ says it adds no theme code, except a Bypass code some early users pasted in by hand: delete it if you did. If you used its checkout rule, confirm it has gone from Settings → Checkout → Checkout rules, and edit any Flow workflow that used its triggers or actions.
Tip: Shopify advises asking an app’s developer about extra uninstall steps (Uninstalling apps). For X Shield, the only one is to release any fulfilment holds it placed; Shopify removes its theme app extension automatically (UX for theme app extensions).
