Avis Product Reviews App

Collect photo reviews, import reviews from your old app

Avis Product Reviews is a Shopify app that collects photo and video reviews after each order and imports your reviews from another review app, with the photos its file links to. Labels tell shoppers which reviews were matched to an order, rewarded or added by the store, and Avis never hides a review because of its rating.

What does Avis do?

Avis emails each customer for a review after the order, then shows the reviews on your product pages with labels that say where each one came from.

  • Import reviews from your old app

Upload the export file from your current review app, or any CSV file. A preview shows the result before anything is saved, the photos and videos the file links to are copied into your Shopify Files within size limits, and the file's review dates and public replies come too.

  • Review request emails

Avis emails each customer a set number of days after the order ships, with up to three reminders and stars they can click to start a review. Paid plans can count from delivery instead.

  • Photo and video reviews on your store

Product reviews, star ratings, an all-reviews page, carousels and questions and answers, built into your theme rather than an iframe, with storefront text in 39 languages.

  • Labels that say where reviews came from

Verified purchase means Avis matched the review to an order in your store. Rewarded and store-written reviews are always labelled, and a How reviews work note tells shoppers how you collect them.

  • Ratings Google and your theme can read

With the app embed on, Avis adds product structured data to product pages, with the average rating and up to 20 reviews, and saves each rating in Shopify's standard rating fields. Google decides whether stars show.

Can I move my reviews from another app to Avis?

Yes. Export your reviews from your current app as a CSV file and upload it in Avis under Import & export. Avis recognises the export files of 20 review apps, and reads any other CSV once you match its columns. A preview shows what will be imported before anything is saved. Photos up to 20 MB and videos up to 64 MB that the file links to are copied into your Shopify Files, dates and public replies come too, and an import can be undone. What your old app puts in its export decides what can come across.

What does Verified purchase mean?

Avis shows Verified purchase only when it matched the review to an order in your store: the order behind its review request link, or an order from the last 60 days with the reviewer's email and the product, which is as far back as Shopify lets it look. An imported review is re-checked the same way; where the old app's file carries its own verified mark, it can show as Verified by previous review app if you switch that label on. Rewarded and store-written reviews are always labelled, and reviews you added and staff reviews never count in your star rating.

Does Avis hide negative reviews?

No. Avis never hides a review because of its rating. You can hold lower-rated reviews for a look before they publish, but a held review publishes by itself after the waiting time, 14 days by default, unless you hide it. Taking down a published review needs one of 12 content reasons, such as spam or personal information, and every change goes into a moderation log no one can edit.

One 3-star review marked Verified purchase and Published, with its history: created from a review request, published, a reply posted, and a note that no one can edit the log.

Will my star ratings show in Google?

With the Avis app embed on, Avis adds review structured data to your product pages, the average rating and up to 20 reviews, and saves each rating in Shopify's standard rating fields. Google decides whether stars appear. On paid plans, Avis also builds a product reviews feed for Google Shopping, where Google's Product Ratings programme needs at least 50 product reviews across your store.

Does Shopify have its own product reviews?

Not for your online store. Shopify's own Product Reviews app is no longer available on the App Store. Shop collects reviews from buyers in the Shop app and shows them there; they appear on a store only through one of the partner review apps Shopify lists, and Avis is not one of them. Your theme can show star ratings from Shopify's standard rating fields, which a review app such as Avis fills.

What does the Free plan include?

Unlimited reviews, photos and videos; 300 review request emails a month with reminders, a review link and a QR code; imports from other apps with the photos their files link to; every review widget and questions and answers, except AI review stories; source labels, moderation and its log; review data for Google and store reviews; and exports at any time. Paid plans add unlimited requests, delivery-based timing, rewards, AI, integrations and the Google Shopping feed.

Shopify collects reviews in the Shop app and gives every review app standard rating fields; it has no review feature for your online store. Avis fills that gap. It doesn't sync with the Shop app today.

What can Avis access?

The Shopify access scopes in Avis’s app configuration, and what each one is for.

Frequently asked questions

Is Avis free?

Yes, there is a Free plan, with no limit on reviews, photos or videos. It sends up to 300 review request emails a month, and reminders don't count towards that. It also includes imports, every review widget and questions and answers except AI review stories, source labels, moderation and exports. Growth adds unlimited requests, delivery-based timing, rewards for reviews, custom questions, AI summaries, integrations and the Google Shopping feed, and Pro adds AI reply drafts and translation, AI review stories and your own text in each language. The pricing table on this page lists each plan.

Which review apps can I import from?

Avis recognises the CSV export files of 20 review apps by their columns, and reads any other CSV file once you match its columns to review fields. A preview shows what will be imported before anything is saved. Avis doesn't import reviews from AliExpress, Amazon or other marketplaces, and when another app's file says some of its reviews came from one, the preview counts them so you can remove them first.

Will my imported reviews keep their verified badges?

Avis re-checks each imported review against your store's orders, and shows Verified purchase only when it finds the reviewer's email and the product in an order from the last 60 days, which is as far back as Shopify lets it look. Where the old app's file carries its own verified mark, you can show it as Verified by previous review app by switching that label on under Settings → Labels and statement. Older reviews still import, without the Verified purchase label.

Does Avis work with my theme?

Avis's blocks need an Online Store 2.0 theme; older themes can't show them, and headless storefronts can't use them. You add the Avis Reviews block to your product template in the theme editor, and turn on the Avis app embed for the pop-up, the side tab, the floating trust badge and the review data for Google. The widgets are part of your page rather than an iframe. The Match your theme look reads your theme's text colour, font, buttons and corners on the page; check it on your own store, because the preview shows a plain theme.

When are review requests sent?

By default, 14 days after you mark the order as fulfilled, followed by two reminders. You can choose from 0 to 90 days and up to three reminders. On paid plans you can count from delivery, when the carrier marks the parcel delivered, or from payment, set a different delay for international orders and send only during the customer's daytime. Automatic requests go out only while Send review requests automatically is on: setup's Get reviews step starts it ticked, and you can change it under Collect → Timing & rules.

Can review requests come from my own email address?

No. Every store's requests are sent from reviews@avis-mail.b2bgold.app, Avis's sending address. You set the sender name, which is your store's name if you leave it empty, and the address replies go to, which is your store's contact email unless you change it.

Can I ask customers who bought before I installed Avis?

Yes, for orders from the last 60 days, which is as far back as Shopify lets Avis see. Collect → Ask past customers emails a review request for each fulfilled order in the range you choose that didn't get one yet, and those emails count towards the Free plan's monthly limit. For older customers, Request a review → From a CSV file sends requests to a file of email addresses and products, and those reviews show Verified purchase only if Avis can match them to an order from the last 60 days.

Can I give a discount for a review?

On Growth and Pro, yes. Collect → Incentives creates a one-time Shopify discount code for each review, or only for reviews with a photo or video, or gives everyone a code you made in Shopify. The reward never depends on the rating, you write a disclosure before the offer can be saved, and every rewarded review carries an Incentivized review label you can't remove.

Does Avis have questions and answers?

Yes, on every plan. Turn on Show Q&A under Widgets → Product reviews, and a Questions & answers tab appears in the Avis Reviews block on your product pages. Shoppers see a question only after your store answers it; other shoppers can then add answers, which show once you publish them.

Does Avis sync reviews with the Shop app?

Not today. Avis doesn't send reviews to the Shop app or show reviews written there, and it isn't one of the review apps Shopify lists for syncing with Shop.

What happens to my reviews if I uninstall?

Download your reviews CSV and media list first: export is free on every plan. Each product's star rating and review count stay in Shopify's standard rating fields, and review photos and videos stay in your Shopify Files. Shopify asks Avis to delete your store's data 48 hours after you uninstall, and Avis then deletes the reviews, review requests and moderation log it keeps.

What does Avis load on my storefront?

With the Avis app embed on, every page loads an 869-byte script, which loads nothing more on a page with no Avis widget or floating feature. A page that shows reviews or a floating widget also loads Avis's core script, about 55 KB gzipped, and that widget's own part. The widgets are part of your page, with no iframes and no cookies, and their requests go only to your store's own /apps/avis/ address.
