Ask Past Customers for Reviews with Avis
How do I ask past customers for reviews?
To ask past customers for reviews with Avis Product Reviews, open Collect and click Ask past customers. Avis emails a review request for each fulfilled order in the range you choose that didn’t get one yet, up to 60 days back. For one order or a list of people, use Request a review instead.
- In Avis, open Collect and click Ask past customers.
- Under Orders from, choose The last 30 days, The last 60 days or A date range.
- Under Who to ask, choose Everyone or Only customers who have never reviewed.
- Click Send requests. Avis says “Started. Avis creates and sends the requests in small batches.”
Your rules on Timing & rules apply to these requests too, such as marketing consent and skip tags, and customers who unsubscribed from Avis are never emailed. They count toward your monthly limit of 2,000 review requests: “Requests over the limit wait until next month.” Avis runs one date range at a time, and you can Stop a run; the requests it already created stay in the Queue.
How do I request a review for one order?
To request a review for one order in Avis, click Request a review on the Collect page and use From an order: find the order, and Avis emails its customer right away. Reviews written from that email show as verified. These requests don’t count toward the monthly limit.
Request a review has three tabs:
| Tab | Who gets the email | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| From an order | The order’s customer, about the products in it | One order |
| From email addresses | The addresses you paste, about the products you add | Up to 100 people and 5 products |
| From a CSV file | One row per customer and product, with the columns email, name and product | Up to 500 rows |
- From an order reaches only recent orders: “Shopify lets Avis see only the last 60 days of orders.”
- Typed addresses and CSV rows have no order behind them, so they don’t make a review verified by themselves: a review shows as verified when its email matches an order. See verified purchase and review labels.
- Avis skips anyone who unsubscribed or already reviewed those products: “Only ask people who bought from you.”
- A typed address or CSV row has no recorded marketing consent: with the default Marketing consent setting it gets the version with no offer, and with Only customers who accepted marketing it gets no email.
How far back can Avis ask?
Avis can ask about orders from the last 60 days, because Shopify lets Avis see only the last 60 days of orders. In Ask past customers, an older start date is refused with “Choose a date in the last 60 days.”
For customers whose orders are older, put the review link or its QR code in front of them, or send a request to their email address with From email addresses. Avis looks for the customer’s order when they write: a review shows as verified only when its email matches an order Avis can see.
How do the review link and QR code work?
Avis’s review link is one address for your whole store, for places you can’t send an email, such as package inserts, receipts or social media. Find it under Collect → Link & QR code, as Your review link and a QR code you can download as PNG or SVG.
- The customer opens the link and enters the email they used at checkout.
- Avis finds their latest order without a review and emails them its review link.
- They write the review from that email. The review is linked to the order and shows as verified.
The link doesn’t open a form directly: it sends the email, so a stranger can’t write a verified review with it. “The page always shows the same message, so no one can use it to check who your customers are.” The page the link opens is in English.
To open the review form on a product page instead, add #avis-write or ?avis_review=1 to a product’s link, for buttons in your own emails or messages. This needs the Avis app embed or the Avis Reviews block on that product page.
Can customers review from their account?
Yes. Avis adds a Write a review button to the order status page in Shopify’s customer accounts, under the heading “Review your order”, for a signed-in customer’s fulfilled orders. A product they’ve already reviewed shows Reviewed.
Add the block called Avis write a review to the order status page in Shopify’s customer accounts editor, then save. The block doesn’t send an email, and it doesn’t count toward the monthly limit.
